How to enable previously blocked Web Push Notifications

This guide explains how to allow web push notifications again if you previously blocked them or your browser blocked them automatically.

You can change the notification permission for your community on desktop in either of these ways.


Option 1: Use the Site Controls Icon


  1. Open your Community page.
  2. Click the site controls or configuration icon next to the page URL in your browser’s address bar → Toggle the Notifications switcher to Allow.


  1. Refresh the page.


Notifications will be enabled, and the banner saying that notifications are currently disabled will disappear.


Option 2: Open Site Settings


  1. Open your Community page.
  2. Click the site controls or configuration icon next to the page URL → Select Site settings to open the settings for this website.


  1. Find Notifications and choose Allow.



Ask (default)

Your browser will ask for permission when you click Enable on the community banner

Allow

Your browser will allow web push notifications from the community

Block

Notifications will remain blocked


Once notifications are allowed, you can receive web push notifications about community events.


Steps for Microsoft Edge:


Enabling notifications in Microsoft Edge is slightly different from other browsers. When you open your Community page:


  1. Click How to enable. This will open the instructions you’re reading now.
  2. Return to the Community tab and click the bell icon on the right side of the address bar.
  3. Click Allow for this site.


You can also use the method described above: click the site controls icon on the left side of the address bar, select Site settings, and follow these steps.


How to Enable Web Push Notifications on Mobile


The steps for enabling web push notifications on mobile are similar to the desktop steps.


  1. Open your Community page on your phone.
  2. Tap the site controls or configuration icon next to the page URL in your browser’s address bar.


  1. Tap Permissions. You may see Notifications Blocked under it.


  1. Tap Notifications to open the notification settings for this website on your phone.


  1. Switch notifications on.



The names and appearance of these controls may vary slightly between browsers and devices.
